Review: Third Attempt - Shine Your Light On Me [Inc. Hotmood Remix] (The Disco Express)

Norwegian producer Third Attempt returns to The Disco Express with 'Shine Your Light On Me', "a warm, soulful cut that sits comfortably between disco, house and leftfield electronica".

Following 'We Are All Connected EP' (on Beatservice - see Review HERE) and his appearance on The Disco Express' 'Summer Heatwave' compilation (see review HERE), Torje Fagertun Spilde (aka Third Attempt) is back on The Disco Express with more summer heat with 'Shine Your Light On Me' plus a Hotmood Remix. 

Built around an infectious groove and Third Attempt’s signature musicality, the track carries that rare balance of laid-back sophistication and dancefloor intent. It’s the kind of record that works equally well as the sun goes down, deep into the night, or soundtracking a slower moment away from the club.

Oslo-based Third Attempt has developed a distinctive catalogue across house, funk, disco and soul, with releases on respected labels including Beatservice, The Disco Express and Paper Recordings. Completely self-taught, his musical journey has taken him through ambient, trip-hop, house and techno, shaping an evolving sound that feels both deeply considered and distinctly his own. As a DJ and live artist, he has shared stages with Bon Entendeur, Skatebård, Todd Terje, Lindstrøm and Craig Charles, while his three vinyl LPs and five expansive albums have earned support from key players across the underground.

There’s a romantic thread running through “Shine Your Light On Me” and the wider project. As Third Attempt puts it, “I've come to the conclusion that I am somewhat of a romantic. So this recent EP is centered around my love for many things. Among them is dance music. Woven together with feelings and reflections from a very special time in my life. Renewing my eye for beauty and uplifting expressions. For people with growing hearts. And for the listeners and dancers out there.”

Taking the track in a different direction is Mexican DJ and production wizard Hotmood, (already been on The Disco Express train and remixed HERE), brings his unmistakable disco touch to the remix and turning up the groove for the dancefloor

Review: Soulnaturals Ft. CeCi Munette - I Found Love In A Discotheque (inc. Hotmood Remix)(British Soul Standard)

A few years ago, it was 'I Never Knew A Hell Like You' by the Soulnaturals but this summer, it's a big change as 'I Found Love In A Discotheque' featuring CeCi Munette is rocking the house.

The DJs out there will probably prefer the sparcer Hotmood Remix whilst the original version is ready for radio plays as well as the dancefloor.

For a new track, it's impressive that it's so 70s (when did anyone last go to a Disco ever lone a Discoteque?) and it's clearly the Soulnaturals happy place as the forthcoming album is called, 'Parlo Discoteca?'

And whilst this is being released on the British Soul Standard label, Ms. Munette is a soul/gospel singer from San Diego which is a long way from The Royalty, Southgate which is where you'd have likely to have found "love" and some of Soulnaturals current fans like DJs Peter Young, Andy Peebles and Craig Charles.

But you don't hae to be old to love this and the nu-disco folks will be hammering the Hotmood remix.
