Review: Jean-Jez - Hooked / Deep Trent (inc. Trinidadian Deep & Mikekon Remixes) (Trusted Rhythm Records)

More 'Afro-house, Not Afro-house' as Trusted Rhythm Records add three more ambassadores to the rosta!

Somewhat different to the last release on the label, Msizee Laroja's 'Musu'Kuyenza' featuriing Biikie (with Laroye Remixes) but what with Yuu's Beats Sculpture (with Coflo Remix) (see review HERE), Trusted Rhythm are on a roll at the moment and we're definitely 'Hooked' on this house work.

Trinidadian Deep is known for his love of dubs and Hooked' weaves in and out (for nearly 10 minutes) with catchy soulful vocals, piano and vibes: but hang on! This is the 'Hooked' orignal version.

Mikekon (the Austrailian) has a remix that goes wowie space synthy whilst keeping the vocals.

You have to wait until you get to the actual Trinidadian Deep remix of the 'Deep Trent' track.  I don't think this is a tribute to the River Trent, think more, "What would Ron do"?  As in Ron Trent (see review HERE).  Well it's spacey, percussive and synthy all with a sense of urgency - think of this as a Trent tributary; from the Andes when the pan pipes come in.

The Trinidadian Deep remix you've all been waiting for is typically Afro-housed with some choral/mod-jazz organ as it dubs in the mouth of the river.

Review: Msizee Laroja - Musu'Kuyenza ft. Biikie (Laroye Remixes) (Trusted Rhythm Records)

South Africa is the source of so much great music these days and Msizee Laroja has used the marimba on this one for, sorry for the mis-quotte, Afro-house, Not Afro-house!

What with Yuu Udagawa's 'Beats Sculpture' together with the Coflo Remix (see review HERE), Trusted Rhythm have found another winner as this track is more than uplifted by Blikie's vocals (she's from Bloemfontein) and French born/longtime UK resident, Laroye's remixes.

Laroye's name has cropped up on YATM a few times when it comes to a remix (most recently on Beatkozina's 'Merhba Remix' EP (see review HERE) but there's two here that's even better.  One he's called a 'Melodub' that keeps a bit of the vocals and adds some jangles that's 50% Christmas and 50% steel works in Dudley.   

Perhaps his 'Main Mix Instrumental' is set up for all tastes/event but get all four versions into DJ set lists to keep the glow of late summer going forever.

Review: Yuu Udagawa - Beats Sculpture (with Coflo Remix) (Trusted Rhythm Records)

Not one but two Yuu Udagawa releases in one month and 'Beat Sculpture comes with a Coflo remix!

Following on from the 'Golden Glow' EP (see review HERE), I know you'll be impressed with the lead track 'Beats Sculpture' but wait 'till you here the Coflo remix - you'll recall his Kerrier Collective 'Life Wants To Live' remix, see review HERE - but what's going on in San Francisco?  The original isn't exactly industrial but it seems to have hit some Carl Craig Detroit machine workx!

Both tracks are great and expect all the big head DJs to have it in their set lists for the summer.
